Mass at St. Stephen's Day at Mary House Chapel, Whitehorse
In the midwinter lull of activity, it is a good time for us to incline toward devotion. We set the tone for ourselves during this new year by remembering how close we can be to God through Jesus Christ.
The sacred author of the Letter to the Hebrews says, “…let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess His name.” So, for us who are Christians, the need to give glory to God is always part of our prayer; and then this prayerful sentiment is supported by our life's actions: “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” (Heb 13:15-16)
The wonderful work of our dedicated missionaries is marked by prayer and yearning to always be close to Jesus Christ, and then to share the very intimate knowledge of the Lord that they experience with those to whom they minister.
What an uplifting challenge that is for us, too, who render these missionaries our support. We also try to ensure our closeness to Jesus, with His Blessed Mother, Mary, and feel the Divine Mercy that so freely envelops us, and ensures us of the Lord's saving gifts here on earth and in the time to come. That very sense of giftedness makes us want to do as the holy writer suggests, to share what we have, to be pleasing to God the Father.
Here at Catholic Missions In Canada we rejoice continually in the sharing of you, our many good supporters, who do your part to bring the intimacy of Jesus Christ to His people in many far away missions. We know, too, that your sharing is the fruit of your own devotion and fervent faith. May you grow in His love in this year to come!
