Making a gift with RRSPs/RRIFs

For donors who wish to make a gift of their RRSP/RRIFs to Catholic Missions In Canada, Canada Revenue Agency legislation allows the designation of a charity as the beneficiary of your RRIF directly on the plan documents. If you name Catholic Missions In Canada as the beneficiary of your registered retirement funds on the plan forms, the proceeds flow directly to the charity upon your death. As the gift would be outside your Will, there would be no probate fees charged on your gift to your Estate.

For funds received from an RRSP or RRIF a receipt for the full value is issued to your estate. This receipt will cover the taxes owed on your funds at death.

A gift of your RRIF would create a legacy that would make a real difference in the lives of many missionaries and the people entrusted to their spiritual care across Canada.

If you are interested in making a charitable gift of your RRIF, outside of your Will, you will need to:

  1. Contact your bank or broker who invests your funds and request a "change of beneficiary" form.

  2. Fill in the name of Catholic Missions In Canada as your beneficiary and return the forms to the company. If your signature needs to be witnessed, you will be informed or it will be stated clearly on the change of beneficiary form.

  3. If you let Catholic Missions In Canada know that we are your designated beneficiary, it will allow us to plan for the future and more importantly, thank you now for your future gift. With such a gift, you would also become a member of our Legacy Circle.
