Who are our Canadian missionaries?

Over 600 missionaries serve in home mission communities right across Canada. Take a moment to read just a few of their stories, their joy and courage as they selflessly keep our faith alive in service to God and his people despite hardships, poverty and isolation.

Father Bart Burke is parish priest and pastor to four First Nations Reserves spanning northern Ontario and Manitoba, a far cry from his days of growing up on a small farm near Peterborough, Ontario.

Sister Alice Walsh is a Presentation Sister, charged with the pastoral care of 1,200 parishioners in Picadilly, on the west coast of Newfoundland.


For seminarian James deBeer of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg, vocation is all about transformation.


We've seen the faces of Innu children sniffing gasoline, shouting out that they want to die.

On a beautiful autumn day last September, people in the mission of St. Joseph Church at Ebb and Flow First Nation, Ebb and Flow, Manitoba, joined in the annual Mass for the Dead in our cemetery.
